The legalization of gay marriage in North Carolina means more gays and lesbians will now be eligible for health insurance through their spouses’ employers.
Queens will not be affected by the new decision, having offered benefits to same-sex domestic partners of employees since 2007.
“Starting last year, we asked ourselves the question: ‘Do we really care if it’s a same-sex … domestic partner?’ ” Human Resource Director Teri Orsini said in an interview with the Charlotte Observer. “No, we don’t care. Not in a bad way, but it’s not our business.”
