Homecoming fashion show ‘royally rad’

I wondered as I came into the cafeteria a few days ago, “Why is there a stage in the middle of the floor?” I blamed it on the elves that like to rearrange the furniture in the Dining Hall at night.

Elves had rearranged the room, but not the usual mysterious elves. These “elves” were not elves at all, but members of the Explore Charlotte club (with help from campus services to set up the stage). For weeks, Explore Charlotte has been plotting away for a fashion show to kick off Homecoming Week 2014.

About 25 people strutted their stuff down the red-carpet runway. They sported sweaters for a winter wonderland theme, followed by business attire. There was also a “grown and sexy” category followed by spring break fashion and 90s throwback duds.

People in the crowd cheered as their friends pranced like wannabe models. The crowd also got to partake in stepping on the cat-walk. Between each category, there were chances for audience members to win gift cards for doing what college students do best: act goofy. There was a twerk competition and nay-nay dance off. Plus, if you were donning Queens apparel, you got a chance to strut your stuff and win a prize from Campus Union Board.

During the intermission, Oko from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte performed two songs from his new album on iTunes. To boost his popularity, he proposed that the person to take the best photo of him performing and post it on Instagram would win $50 in cold, hard cash. Check out Instagram #okodgreat to see cmbreezy94’s winning image.

After the performance last night, C.U.B. posted on Facebook “Thank you Queens University of Charlotte Explore Charlotte for the BADDESTT Homecoming Fashion Show EVER!!!” I have to agree; it was the best event since Welcome Week.
